2017 Governance Webinars

Registration Now Open for the Fall 2017 Governance Webinar Series: September 12 & 14, November 1, 9 & 29
Informed Credit Union Governance

Join Craig Ervine, LL.M., Ph.D. – Chair, Quinte First Credit Union – for two stimulating discussions: the first, on strategies for improving decision-making and the second, techniques for navigating the difficult conversations that can sabotage healthy dialogue and the decision-making process.

  1. Strategies for Improving Decision-Making
This session explores research in the area of decision-making as the backdrop for providing boards with practical strategies when considering issues that require resolution. Recognizing the obstacles which thwart good decisions is important to achieving improved results. Relevant examples will encourage directors to reflect on their own decision-making processes and will offer ideas and methods to enhance decision outcomes.

  2. Navigating Difficult Discussions
This session explores strategies for navigating difficult discussions. It also provides practical tools to manage confrontational circumstances in a way that encourages and maintains active, constructive board dialogue and engagement.

Then, be sure to join us for 3 webinars with the Filene Research Institute, that can impact your board’s “Tone from the Top.”

  1. Demystifying Innovation
Most barriers to innovation in your credit union are self-imposed. What are they? How do derail them? This session starts with helping you, your board and leadership team better understand what innovation means in the world of consumer finance and what you can do to become a more consumer-responsive organization.

  2. Board Governance: Successfully Leading Credit Unions into the Future
The underpinning of this webinar with Tansley is a series of three Filene reports on board governance. No topic is off limits – annual meetings, board renewal policies, mergers, perks and compensation. Through exhaustive literature review and decades of firsthand experience, we will draw recommendations for credit union boards with direct potential impact.

  3. Designing Credit Union Culture for High Performance
The culture of an organization takes on many shapes and definitions. We know one thing is certain: organizations with “strong” cultures – well-defined values, words and actions that uphold those values and behaviours that encourage the staff to come along in the journey – have greater success in tangible measures like ROI, net income, sales growth and cash flow.

Regional Training

New directors want a better understanding of their role and of the business for which they are accountable. Experienced directors want to be-in-the know about current governance issues and trends. Both groups are in constant search for ways of strengthening their corporate governance practices. The highly respected Credit Union Director Achievement (CUDA) Program has been designed to meet these needs.

Throughout the year, intensive classroom CUDA courses are offered over a series of days in regions across Canada. These sessions are open to all directors and provide the value of networking opportunities between training.
